One of our most popular and beloved Talent Project Officers just passed away.  She was instrumental in USAFE for bringing some of the best talent to Worldwide.  Many of our older priors will know her.

Following is a letter from JoAnn Mellon, our leader and HQ USAFE Entertainment Specialist in the 80's and early 90's.  She wants everyone that knew Ros to have a chance to send notes to her husband and have a moment to reflect on all of the joy she gave us.  She will be truly and lovingly missed.

To the Tops in Blue Family…

I would like to share some sad news with you.  Our dear friend, Rosalind (Ros) Bennett was diagnosed with brain cancer about 3 months ago and passed away this week.   Ros was the Mildenhall Recreation Center Director for many, many years and retired in 1997.   She  was a fiery English redhead with great energy, an indomitable spirit and an amazing love of life.  Her love and devotion to the Air Force Talent program was second to none.  For over 30 years, she helped develop and mentor talented young men and women and for many, she was a second mom.  I first met Ros in 1985 when I became the Director of USAFE Entertainment.   We quickly became great friends as well as colleagues and spent many hours discussing the “state of the USAFE talent program” and how to make it better for the command as well as for the Airmen involved.   We all flew over from Germany for her retirement ceremony and spent an evening watching talent videos – no surprise!

In 1988, Ros was my co-project officer as we took the USAFE Talent Team to the Worldwide Talent Contest in San Antonio.   During the 2 weeks we were there, we planned a wedding (for our singer Kelly and our techie Kevin), nearly got thrown off base for driving onto the parade field (Ros was not used to stateside driving and got disoriented!) and endured the ultimate embarrassment when our guy Eddie performed on the worldwide stage with his fly open!  Through it all, we never enjoyed Worldwide so much, as she kept us laughing all the way.  She made life fun for everyone and every talent contestant that ever was part of the “UK Team” loved and adored Ros Bennett.

It is hard to imagine life without her, but she leaves this world a better place and all of us are better for having known her.   Please keep her in your prayers and in your hearts.  The memories we share of our dear friend Ros will last a lifetime.

Love to all…

I remember that somewhat. I think we WWTC techs had to act as stand-ins for the wedding rehearsal, and I believe the actual wedding occurred right on the WWTC set. Both Kelly & Kevin were stationed overseas (Spain, I think) but Kelly was selected for the stateside tour & Kevin wasn't selected at all. Back in the day, WWTC finals night led directly (as in "the next morning") to TIB staging.

I can't believe she's gone.  Unreal.  My condolences to her and her family.

I am deeply saddened by the news of Ros' passing.  She was a sweet lady and I am a better performer for having worked with her.  My prayers go out to her family at this very difficult time.  I like to use a quote I "borrow" all the time from my pastor and it goes, "when I die, will it matter that I ever lived?"  The world is a much better place because Ros Bennett graced it.  Many people have been groomed by her expertise and the love with which she worked.  She was wonderful and will always be remember in the USAFE and Tops In Blue Family.
